Musings about life in an Interfaith Family

Do small things with great love. – Mother Teresa

In 1988, I fell in in love with a wonderful young man. It seemed that our lives were in sync on almost everything. We loved each other for who the other one was. To us there was no problem, but to others there was one. I identified as Catholic and he identified as Jewish. We would never ask the other to change his/her identity, so converting was not in the picture. We decided to get married and to start a family. We wanted to bring our children up in two religions, knowing both intimately well. For me, growing up Italian-American Catholic and Irish-American Catholic, this seemed like a no brainer. For others, outside our love, they looked at us as if we were insane, banishing our unborn children to a life of confusion and utter despair. This blog is testament to the joys of leading a truly interfaith life and raising well grounded, not confused by religion, children.
